Wholeshare
Grindstone Farm is excited to announce its new partnership with Wholeshare Buying Club and Regional Access!
Read this entire post carefully so that you understand how Wholeshare works with Grindstone Farm.
What is Wholeshare?
Grindstone Farm is happy to begin offering products from Regional Access, an Ithaca-based distributor that “was built on a vision of providing ecologically responsible, locally grown food in Upstate New York.” These products will be available through Grindstone Farm’s Wholeshare Buying Club website. Your orders on Wholeshare will be packed and delivered with your Grindstone Farm account orders, for Grindstone’s regular Thursday delivery. Please be advised that you must have a Grindstone Farm account to place an order with Grindstone Farm’s Wholeshare group.
We at Grindstone Farm know you care about local eating, so we have created this group on Wholeshare to open the door to Regional Access’s wholesale products. While the products are locally produced, not all are organic, so be sure to check the product description or choose the “organic” filter when searching for items if you want to ensure your product is certified organic. This site operates a bit differently than your Grindstone account, in that you can order bulk items, but you can also initiate a “split” of a bulk item so that you are buying only what you can handle.
How does a split work?
A group member named Dick, let’s say, finds a product he loves, like 100% grass-fed, NY state butter. Dick looks for the product, but sees that Regional only offers this product in 5lb increments. Since Dick only needs 2lbs of butter, he clicks “split” next to the product description, and indicates he would like 2lbs of the 5 available. Dick notices that when he clicks “split” that he has to put in his credit card information first. This is to ensure that Dick doesn’t enter a split and then back out of his side of the bargain, leaving other customers who have entered the split to pay for and divide his 2lbs. Once enough Grindstone Farm group members join the split so that all 5 lbs have been accounted for, the order is placed to Regional Access. Once they receive the order, Dick’s credit card is charged. Dick will not be charged and he will not receive his butter if not enough folks join the split. To help ensure that everyone receives what they want, an email will be sent out to all group members when a split is initiated so you have a chance to get in on the deal.
How does Wholeshare work with your Grindstone Account?
Although you do need to pay separately for your Wholeshare order, we will process the delivery of your order the same as your Grindstone Farm orders. So, when you sign up to be a member of the Grindstone Farm Wholeshare group, you will need to input a credit or debit card into your Wholeshare account. This will be used to pay for your Wholeshare purchases only. You must have a Grindstone Farm account to participate in Wholeshare, because we use the Grindstone Farm accounts to manage your preferred delivery information and delivery fees. That means that you will have to pay for any delivery fees through your account on www.grindstonefarm.com, even if you don’t order any products from the Grindstone Farm website that week. Also, for the time being, you have to order Grindstone Farm produce, Healthy Boxes, CSA Shares, and produce from our farm partners from the Grindstone Farm account, which can be accessed through www.grindstonefarm.com.
If you are not signed up for an account with Grindstone Farm, click here to create an account. Then, we will approve your entrance into the Grindstone Farm Wholeshare group. We encourage all Grindstone Farm supporters to invite their friends to join the Grindstone Farm Wholeshare group, but please let them know they need to create an account through www.grindstonefarm.com first. They don’t need to place an order with Grindstone Farm when they open their account (but, of course, that would be nice!)
So, how do you sign up for Wholeshare to get in on all the great Regional products?
Go to http://www.wholeshare.com/join/1190. You will see a message saying “Welcome! Sign up below to join ‘Grindstone Farm.’” Put in your preferred email, your name, and your zipcode, and you’re ready to go.
